Reclaimed Wood Pieces for The Foundry

Collaborating with The Foundry: Crafting Timeless Designs from Reclaimed Wood and Sustainable Material

Located on the 20th floor of the iconic 1 State Street building in Hartford, CT, The Foundry is celebrated for its "Elevated American" cuisine and inviting atmosphere. When they sought custom-crafted pieces that embraced reclaimed materials and sustainable design, we partnered closely with their team to deliver stunning creations that perfectly balanced history, functionality, and elegance.

A Host Stand Crafted from Reclaimed Material

The host stand at The Foundry's entrance showcases the versatility of reclaimed wood and repurposed materials. Featuring a receding brick face illuminated by warm recessed lighting, this piece is framed in steel that is color-matched to the restaurant’s brass accents, blending industrial charm with modern sophistication. Thoughtfully designed with adjustable shelving, storage cabinets, and drawers, it exemplifies how reclaimed woodwork can seamlessly combine beauty and utility.

Reclaimed Black Walnut Bar Ledge

At the heart of the bar lies a 12-foot-long reclaimed black walnut ledge, designed to highlight the natural beauty of the wood. The book-matched top creates a stunning mirrored effect, making it a true focal point. Its base, constructed from repurposed boiler pipe, pays homage to the parent company, Hartford Steam Boiler, while brass-colored expanded metal panels tie the design into the restaurant's cohesive aesthetic. This piece demonstrates how reclaimed wood and industrial materials can harmonize in custom woodwork.

Historic Barn Doors from Reclaimed Douglas Fir

The Foundry’s barn doors tell a story of history and sustainability. Crafted from bleacher wood salvaged from Trinity College of Hartford, the straight-grain reclaimed Douglas fir highlights the charm of vintage materials. Custom-fabricated handles and flush pulls complete the design, blending reclaimed materials with thoughtful craftsmanship.

This collaboration exemplifies the beauty and functionality of working with reclaimed wood and sustainable materials. Each custom piece was designed to enhance The Foundry’s unique aesthetic while promoting environmental responsibility. From the warmth of the reclaimed black walnut bar ledge to the storied past of the Douglas fir barn doors, these features highlight the potential of reclaimed materials in modern design.
