At Reworx, we pride ourselves on turning reclaimed materials into distinctive pieces that transform spaces and tell meaningful stories. One of our recent and most rewarding endeavors was a project for Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB) in the heart of Hartford, Connecticut. This commission is a testament to our dedication to sustainability, craftsmanship, and local collaboration.
HSB's vision for their space aligned perfectly with our mission. They sought to create a modern, inviting atmosphere. Using locally sourced, reclaimed materials was not just a request but a shared value, making this project an exciting collaboration.

Every piece we created for HSB tells a story of its origins. We thoughtfully selected the materials to reflect both the local heritage and the modern elegance of HSB's design aesthetic.

The two projects we completed for HSB were a boiler manifold feature piece and an accented coffee table. These items utilized reconstructed boiler manifold carcasses from the historic Hemingway and Bartlett silk manufacturing company in Watertown, CT, built-in 1888. To complement these industrial elements, we crafted live edge and round tops using Red Oak slabs rescued from a felled tree sourced directly from the iconic Elizabeth Park in Hartford—these thoughtful combinations of materials brought history and local pride into the heart of HSB's Innovation Center.
When we learned that our contribution was destined for HSB's Innovation Center, we knew we had to create something unique and cutting-edge. Our goal was to craft pieces that enhanced the space's aesthetic and fostered creativity and forward-thinking. By merging historical elements with modern craftsmanship, we created an environment that inspires fresh perspectives and dynamic problem-solving. This thoughtful design approach helps fuel an atmosphere where ideas thrive, and innovative minds prosper.
Every project has its challenges, and this one was no exception. The intricate process of sourcing and preparing reclaimed materials demanded precision and patience. Each piece had to be carefully milled, sanded, and treated to meet our high standards. Additionally, collaborating with multiple stakeholders required clear communication to ensure the final result aligned with HSB's vision.
The result? A harmonious blend of sustainability and artistry that has redefined HSB's workspace. The feedback from HSB has been overwhelmingly positive, with employees and visitors alike praising the uniqueness and warmth of the space.
This project underscores our belief that sustainability and style can coexist seamlessly. By leveraging locally sourced, reclaimed materials, we've proven that eco-conscious design doesn't have to compromise on aesthetics or functionality. The Hartford Steam Boiler project is not just a milestone for Reworx; it's a shining example of how businesses can embrace sustainable practices while creating inspiring spaces.
